Game Notes

 March 19 Florence Tide 4

TBAA Jags 0

The Florence Tide opened the outdoor season with a 4 - 0 victory over the TBAA Jags in Blackwood, NJ.   Cayla Bercaw started the scoring with a direct kick 22 yards out.  Mandi Barone followed with two goals assisted by Amanda Lutz, Alyssa Mitchell and Alexandria Fantozzi, who had two assists on the day.  Jean Oros finished the scoring for the Tide late in the game with a blast in the lower corner of the Jags' goal.  In goal for the Tide were Cori-Lynn Cubberley and Cayla Bercaw.
 April 9 Florence Tide 5

Willingboro 2

The Tide defeated the Willingboro Warriors, 5 - 2.  Early on, the game appeared to be a high scoring affair by both teams as three goals were scored in the first five minutes with the Tide trailing, 2 - 1.  But, the game quickly settled down with the Tide controlling play throughout and walked away with a well deserved victory.  Leading the Tide attack was Alexandria Fantozzi with two goals followed by single tallies from Jean Oros, Mandi Barone and Cayla Bercaw with assists by Barone (2), Fantozzi, Oros, Lorraine Perri, Amanda Lutz, Brigitte Pastore and Alyssa Mitchell.  In goal for the Tide were Lorraine Perri and Angela Federico.  The Tide are currently tied for first place in the Asian Conference with the Wenonah Wildfire.

 April 16 Florence Tide 3

Wenonah 0

The Tide displayed dominating soccer as they defeated the Wenonah Wildfire, 3-0, who came in undefeated and tied for first place with the Tide.  Lorraine Perri scored the first goal off of a corner kick by Jean Oros.  Lorraine Perri returned the favor as she passed the ball to Alexandria Fantozzi who then sent a long pass to an open Jean Oros for the tally.  In the second half the Tide continued to mount tremendous pressure on the Wildfire defense and Amanda Lutz finally broke through on an unassisted goal with a 20 yard blast in the upper left corner of the Wildfire goal.  Cayla Bercaw was in goal to preserve the shutout.

 April 23 Florence Tide 1

PYAA Renegades 3

The first place Tide traveled to Pennsauken to play the second place PYAA Renegades.  Unfortunately, the Tide lost, 3-1 and realized that it won't be an easy ride to the conference championship.  The weather was cloudy and a bit overcast but it really didn't affect either team.  The Tide scored early off of some nifty passing from Kelsey Kapica and Marney Kirby to Alex Fantozzi to give the Tide a 1-0 lead.  However, the Renegades quickly scored the equalizer to make it 1-1 at half time.  In the second half the Tide controlled play for the most part but just couldn't finish their shots.  This gave the Renegades life as they were able to counter quickly and score two goals off of Tide mistakes.  Hopefully they'll bounce back next week against the Medford Angels.
 April 30 Florence Tide 1

Medford Soccer Angels 0

The Tide traveled to Medford to play the Medford Angels on a cold, rainy day with only one sub but walked away with a well deserved 1-0 victory.  The Tide had their fair share of scoring opportunities but couldn't capitalize; they even hit the cross bar on a penalty shot by Alexandria Fantozzi.  The Tide's lone goal was scored midway through the second half by Alexandria Fantozzi off of a nice assist by Mandi Barone and Marney Kirby.  Brigita Petras made the save of the day and helped preserve the victory for the Tide as she cleared the ball from the Tide's goal area with a few minutes remaining.  Cori-Lynn Cubberley and Angela Federico were in goal to preserve the shut out.
 May 7 Florence Tide 1

TBAA Jags 1

The Tide and TBAA Jags played aggressive soccer that not only ended in a tie, 1-1, but also resulted in a player on each team being ejected for fighting.  It was a game of many missed opportunities for the Tide as they outplayed the Jags throughout the game but couldn't finish their shots.  Cori-Lynn Cubberley scored the Tide's only goal off of an assist by Brigitte Pastore.  It appeared that the Tide were headed for victory but with 30 seconds remaining the Jags tallied the equalizer.  As a result of the tie, the Tide are now in second place two points behind the front running Wenonah Wildfire.
 May 14 Florence Tide 5

Willingboro Warriors 4

The Tide traveled to neighboring Willingboro to battle the Willingboro Warriors on a hot, muggy day to walk away with a hard fought 5-4 victory, which keeps alive their chances for the conference championship.  The Warriors played short-handed throughout the game and took it to the Tide early on as they built a 3-1 halftime lead on the stunned Tide team.  The Warriors were bigger, faster and more aggressive.  The lone goal for the Tide in the first half was scored by Cayla Bercaw off of an assist by Amy Mills.  In the second half the Tide quickly scored to make it 3-2;  Alex Fantozzi tallied the second goal off of an assist by Alyssa Mitchell.  However, the Warriors continued to utilize their size and speed and quickly made it 4-2.  With only 15 minutes remaining the Tide played with a sense of urgency and the Warriors were beginning to tire in the heat and playing short-handed.  The Tide scored three quick goals:  first, Alex Fantozzi converted a Warrior miscue in defense to make it 4-3; then Alyssa Mitchell tallied the equalizer with a 20 yard shot over the Warrior's goalie assisted by Cori-Lynn Cubberley; and, finally, Jean Oros scored the game winner on a break away with about five minutes remaining off of a long through ball by Megan Mount.
 May 21 Florence Tide 3

PYAA Renegades 0

The Florence Tide have won their fourth conference championship by defeating the PYAA Renegades, 3 - 0.    It was a hard fought victory as a depleted Tide team wouldn't give up.  However, it didn't look good early on because midway through the first half, Kelsey Kapica injured her ankle and the Tide had to play the remainder of the game without a sub.  But, the Tide scored late in the first half by Cori-Lynn Cubberley off of an assist by Angela Federico and Alyssa Mitchell.   Eventhough the Tide played without a sub, it didn't stop them as they played tenacious and controlled the game in the second half.  Jean Oros tallied the second goal off of an assist by Megan Mount and Amy Mills, and the Tide sealed the victory with a goal by Alyssa Mitchell assisted by Marney Kirby and Jean Oros.  It was a total team effort as the Tide displayed a balanced attack and a strong defense. Lorraine Perri was in goal to help preserve the shutout and they recorded their fourth shutout of the season.  The Tide finished with a record of 6 - 1 - 1.   Coaches Steve Cubberley, Barry Oros, Tony Pastore, and Greg Perri are proud of the girls' achievements and dedication, and would also like to thank the parents and family members for all of their support.  The Tide are made up of Taylor Bintliff-Green, Cori-Lynn Cubberley, Angela Federico, Alexandria "Alex" Fantozzi, Amanda "Mandi" Barone, Cayla Bercaw, Jean Oros, Amanda Lutz, Lorraine Perri, Brigita Petras, Alyssa Mitchell, Kelsey Kapica, Marney Kirby, Brigitte Pastore, Amy Mills and Megan Mount.
