Medford Soccer Angels 0

The third game of the season started late but under great weather conditions.  The Florence Tide defeated the Medford Soccer Angels 1-0 and remain undefeated in the SJGSL U12 International Conference with a record of 2-0-1.  It was a game of numerous missed opportunities for the Tide until Krista Brandle tallied the lone goal assisted by Kelsey Kapica and Lorraine Perri.  Mandi Barone, Taylor Bintliff-Green, Alex Fantozzi, Brigitte Pastore, and Staci Vancamp maintained the offensive pressure against the Angels. The Tide displayed a tough defense allowing only two shots on goal.  Medford put on a late charge keeping the ball in the Tide's defensive end for the final minutes of the game as the Tide defense momentarily bent did not buckle.  The defense was led by Amanda Lutz, Brigita Petras, Angela Federico, Kelsey Kapica, Jean Oros, Marney Kirby, Alyssa Mitchell, Marissa Siwak, Cori-Lynn Cubberley and Cayla Bercaw.  Angela Federico and Lorraine Perri were in goal to preserve the shutout.

4/3/04

Pennsville Charge 5

Florence Tide 0

There was a big traffic jam on 295.  The Tide took an alternate route and the caravan got separated.  The game started more than thirty minutes late.  The weather was cool but not too windy.  The Tide got off to a slow start giving up a goal on a PK because of a hand ball in the penalty box.  Cori-Lynn made some good saves in the first half to keep the score close.  The Tide was kind of slow the whole game and the Pennsville Charge kept beating us to the ball.  Amanda put in a good effort in goal for the second half but defensive breakdowns led to three more goals.  The Tide had few offensive opportunities to score and was unable to convert on them.  On the positive side, the Tide had more head balls than in any previous game.  (Reported by Brigitte Pastore)

Florence Tide 1

Haddonfield Bulldawgs 1

The day started off with nice weather & an easy drive.  The Bulldawgs scored early in the first half on a short range bouncing shot that found its way just inside the right post.  After letting up the goal the Tide's defense stiffened and keepers Cori-Lynn Cubberley  & Cayla Bercaw shut out the Bulldawgs for the rest of the match.  The Tide scored later in the first half on a beautiful through ball from Amanda Lutz to Cayla Bercaw.  The Tide mounted several nice offensive charges while taking care of business on defense but were unable to tally a second goal.  The match ended a one all draw.

Atlantic United Alleycats 1

The sixth game of the season was played under great weather conditions.  The Florence Tide lost to the Atlantic United Alleycats 1-0 as the Alleycats scored early in the game.  It was a bitter loss for the Tide as it was a game of numerous missed opportunities.  The defense held their own, and Cori-Lynn Cubberley and Angela Federico played well in goal.

It was a hot, muggy day and the Florence Tide were just as "hot" as they defeated the second place Maple Shade Blue Flames 2-0 and are back in the race in the SJGSL International Conference.  The Tide demonstrated a balanced attack led by Alexandria "Alex" Fantozzi's two goals assisted by Taylor Bintliff-Green (2), Amanda Lutz, Mandi Barone, and Lorraine Perri. Other Tide players maintaining the offensive pressure against the Blue Flames were Cayla Bercaw, Cori-Lynn Cubberley, Marissa Siwak, Alyssa Mitchell, Krista Brandle, and Staci Vancamp. Medford Soccer Angels 2

It was a beautiful sunny day as the Florence Tide traveled to Medford for a 2:00pm game.  There was a delay starting the game because the referee was late.  Kickoff ended up at 2:40pm.  The delay may have affected the Tide because they were quickly down 2-0 in the first ten minutes of the game.  The Tide were shocked.  In fact, these were Medford's first goals of the season.  However, shortly thereafter with 12:30 remaining in the first half, Taylor Bintliff-Green put the Tide on the scoreboard with a left footed shot that found the corner of the net, which was assisted by Mandi Barone.  The momentum was turning as the Tide dominated the game from that moment on.  Early in the second half, keeper Lorraine Perri punted the ball out toward midfield where Marissa Siwak took the ball, beat a defender and put a through-ball toward the goal.  Cayla Bercaw got to the ball just before the keeper could wrap it up & knocked it in to score the equalizer.  Through out the second half, the Tide continued to mount pressure on the Angels and finally broke through with the game winner by Marissa Siwak from about 20 yards out assisted by Alexandria "Alex" Fantozzi with 8:45 left in the match.  Cori-Lynn Cubberley and Lorraine Perri replaced an injured Amanda Lutz in goal for the Tide and they did not allow the Angels to score.  The win gives the Tide control of their own destiny in the hunt for a first place finish this season.  If the Tide win the remaining two games of the season they will finish in first place.

Florence Tide 3

Pennsville Charge 1

It was a hot, sunny day and the canopy kept blowing over.  But, it didn't stop the Tide as they defeated the first place Pennsville Charge, 3-1 and dropped the Charge to third place in the International Conference.  It was a great victory for the Tide as they avenged an earlier season loss by dominating the Charge.  Marissa Siwak opened the scoring for the Tide just before half-time with a 15 yard blast over the goal keeper's head assisted by Cori-Lynn Cubberley and Kelsey Kapica.  In the second half the Tide continued to mount the pressure on the Charge and scored two quick early goals by Taylor Bintliff-Green to stretch the lead 3-0.  The goals were assisted by Brigitte Pastore, Jean Oros, Kelsey Kapica, and Krista Brandle.  The Charge finally broke through the tough Tide defense with a goal mid-way through the second half but they could not put any more pressure on the Tide from that moment on.  Angela Federico played stellar in goal.  In fact, the Charge was the first team to score against Angela this season after playing goalie for the sixth time.  The Tide will next play the Maple Shade Blue Flames on Sat., May 22 in Maple Shade for the conference championship.

Maple Shade Blue Flames 1

The Florence Tide U12 girls travel soccer team lost a heartbreaker to the Maple Shade Blue Flames, 1-0 for the International Conference championship. The Tide traveled to Maple Shade to not only play a strong Blue Flames team but they also had to deal with the elements - hot, sunny day; orange lines that overlapped the white lines of the baseball field; and, six inches of uncut grass which slowed the game that the Tide could not utilize their speed.  It was an exciting game as there was end-to-end action with fantastic plays and saves on both sides.  Maple Shade's goalie made some great saves to preserve the shut out and frustrate the Tide players, which had many more scoring opportunities including a penalty shot that hit the crossbar. Brigita Petras made the play of the day for the Tide as she saved a sure goal for Maple Shade by sliding into the goal and trapping the ball against the goal post before clearing it out.  Angela Federico played stellar in goal for the Tide.  Coaches Steve Cubberley, Barry Oros, Tony Pastore, and Greg Perri are proud of the girls' achievements and dedication, and would also like to thank the parents and family members for all of their support.  The Tide also would like to thank Jessica Gonzalez, Trainer, Jim Robbins Soccer School.  The Tide are made up of Taylor Bintliff-Green, Cori-Lynn Cubberley, Angela Federico, Alexandria "Alex" Fantozzi, Amanda "Mandi" Barone, Cayla Bercaw, Jean Oros, Amanda Lutz, Lorraine Perri, Brigita Petras, Marissa Siwak, Krista Brandle, Alyssa Mitchell, Kelsey Kapica, Brigitte Pastore, Marney Kirby, and Staci VanCamp. The Tide will next play in the Burlington Township Memorial Weekend Soccer Tournament from May 28 - 30.
