3/21/04

Glassboro Thunderbirds

The Fire played their toughest game of the season so far and continued their winning ways with a victory over the Thunderbirds.  Fire goals were scored by Shawn Carmignani, Dalton Craft (2) & Greg Perri (2).   Fire players assisting on goals were Shawn Carmignani, Ron Lind, Cameron Lung, Greg Perri, Zach Ronyack & Philip Wilgus.

4/4/04

West Deptford Green Lightning

The game between the Fire and Green Lightning was played under raw, wet, bitterly cold conditions.  The Fire traveled to West Deptford to not only face a feisty Green Lightning team but also had to deal with the rain, hail, snow and strong winds.  Initially the game was to be played at West Deptford Park but the Fire's caravan was met by one of the opposing coaches who redirected us to the Grove Fields a few miles away.  The Fire won the match on goals scored by Stephen Dwyer (2), Ron Lind, Doug MacArthur (2) & Greg Perri.   Fire players assisting on goals were Adam Archer, Daniel Belcher, Dakota Benish, Shawn Carmignani, Ron Lind, Daniel Marant, Doug MacArthur, Greg Perri & Philip Wilgus.

4/18/04

Waterford Wings

Today's game between the Fire and Wings was exciting from start to finish and was played under hot, sunny conditions.  The Fire's inaugural game in the West Continental Conference was a battle as both sides displayed great ball control and excellent passing that resulted in a tie.  Goalies Cameron Lung and Dakota Benish made numerous stops to help preserve the tie.  Greg Perri scored the Fire's lone goal on an assist from Dalton Craft.

4/25/04

Northern Burlington Dragons

Not only did the Fire have to deal with bitterly cold, cloudy and wet elements but they faced an extremely talented and fast Dragons' team.  The Dragons took advantage of their very small field in beautiful Chesterfield, New Jersey by sending long punts and long kicks that were picked up by their speedy front line that resulted in numerous goals.  However, the Fire rebounded well to make a game of it.  Fire goals were scored by Dalton Craft, Greg Perri and Cameron Lung.  Assisting on the goals were Doug MacArthur, Adam Archer and Greg Perri.

5/2/04

Woodstown Blitz

The weather was warm, muggy and overcast but the fans came out in droves (maybe the U19 State Tournament Game between Florence and Hammonton on Upper Marter had a lot to do with the large fan base).  The Fire played well, and for most of the game it look like they were headed for victory.  However, the Fire realized that no lead is safe.  The Woodstown team literally "blitzed" the Fire in the last 25 minutes to walk away with a hard fought victory.  An unusual aspect of the game which caused some confusion and hysterics is that Woodstown had three players named Greg, and one of them was named Greg Terri.

Egg Harbor Earthquakes

The weather was warm, muggy and overcast but the 1 1/2 hour trip to Pleasantville (Egg Harbor Twp.) was "pleasant"; hardly any traffic.  The Fire played well, and had many more opportunities than the Earthquakes, but they couldn't capitalize.  The Earthquakes played an aggressive style of soccer that physically took its toll on our players, and came away with a hard fought victory that was actually a battle right to the end of the game.  The Fire did well on penalty shots as they were two-for-two placing both shots in the lower left corner of the net.

Cherry Hill United Thunder

The weather was hot, muggy and overcast and the weather took its toll on both teams.  The Fire played well early on and hung on for a hard fought tie.  Thanks to Coach Rich Belcher for the four cold water sprayers/extinguishers which were shared with the Cherry Hill United Thunder team.  They were very appreciative.  In the game, as the players approached the sidelines, they would be sprayed to cool them down. And, thanks to Coach Dave Benish for the three-gallon thermos of cold water.
