SPRING 2003 RESULTS

Date Score Notes
March 23, 2003 Florence 1

 Marlton 1

After three weeks of delay due to weather and field conditions, the Flashes finally opened the Spring 2003 season on the road versus Marlton.  The girls came out and dominated the first half offensively but could only take a 1-0 lead into the half.  The lone goal was scored by Ashley Nyul (from the 18) assisted by Chloe Bercaw and Felicia Bonsanto.  The second half was a challenge for the Flashes defense (Brittany, Kiara, Stefanie, and Mercedes K.) who rose to the occasion by continually stopping the progress of the aggressive Marlton forwards.  An unfortunate penalty inside the box allowed Marlton to score their lone goal on a PK after a diving save attempt by Keeper Kaitlyn Antolic.  Overall it was an excellent opening game for the season and it appears as though the girls have not lost a step after the long winter break.

 Washington Twp. 1

On the road again, playing in 30-degree temperatures, wind, rain, hail, and a few snowflakes, the Flashes returned home victorious over Washington Twp. 2-1.  The girls could not get off the field fast enough and into Mom and Dad's heated car to make the trek back up I-295 after battling the elements for 2 hours.  Goals were tallied by Katelyn Steffen and April Hatcher, assisted by Sam Weer.  Once again the Flashes defense and keeper Kaitlyn Antolic stymied the offensive threat posed by Washington Twp. as they picked-up their first win in the young season.  The Flashes (1-0-1) look forward to a re-match from the Fall season as Rancocas Valley visits Florence next week.

Rancocas Valley 1

Weather conditions were much improved this week as Rancocas Valley visited Florence with a share of first place in the conference at stake.  In a very tough, physical game, both teams battled for that first goal.  RV struck first in the first half, but the Flashes rebounded in the second half with an aggressive offense.  Katelyn Steffen scored the equalizer from the 18, assisted by Sam Eib.  A tie dropped the Flashes into second place in the conference and kept them unbeaten through 3 games (1-0-2).

Lawrence 1

After an evenly matched first half where Jackie Miller scored the lone goal, the Flashes exploded for 3 second half goals leading to a 4-1 victory over visiting Lawrence.  Ashley Nyul and Sam Weer each had a huge game (Sam 2 goals, 1 assist; Ashley 1 goal, 2 assists).  Keeper Kaitlyn Antolic had a tremendous game in goal making numerous acrobatic saves to keep the Flashes in the game in the first half.  The win allowed Florence to move into sole possession of first place in the American Conference with a record of 2-0-2.
April 27, 2003 Florence 4

Barrington 2

The Flashes enjoyed their third consecutive game at home as they rolled to a 4-2 victory over Barrington.  It was the first time in 4 meetings, over the last few years, that the Flashes have defeated Barrington.  Another huge game by Ashley Nyul (2 goals, 1 assist) helped pave the way with additional goals by Katelyn Steffen and Chloe Bercaw (PK).  Assists were also recorded by Felicia Bonsanto and Brittany Spence.  Keeper Kaitlyn Antolic had her usual awesome game in goal.  The Flashes improved to 3-0-2 on the season and remain in sole possession of first place in the conference.
May 4, 2003 Florence 4

Hamilton 4

Offense was the name of the game today as Florence scored all four of their goals in the first half with Hamilton bouncing back in the second half to tie up the Flashes in a battle of the remaining undefeated teams in the conference.  Katelyn Steffen (co-leader in team goals with 4) scored early on Hamilton just a few minutes into the game.  Sam Weer had yet another big game with 2 goals (co-leader in team goals with 4) and an assist.  Chloe Bercaw remained reliable and steady on the PK as she scored her 2nd PK goal in as many games.  Ashley Nyul contributed 2 assists on the day.  The ties continue to build as the Flashes remain undefeated at 3-0-3 in the conference.  The Flashes coaches would like to also mention mid-fielders Chloe Bercaw, Carly Blanton, Felicia Bonsanto, and Sam Eib,  who continually battle the offenses and defenses allowing the plays to be successful and goals scored.  The Flashes play their final home game of the season this Sunday, May 11th, 12:30 at Marter Field.  Come out and support the team...you won't be disappointed!
May 11, 2003 Florence 2

Washington Twp. 0

Chloe Bercaw provided all the Flashes offense today, scoring both goals to help the Flashes celebrate a victory on Mother's Day.  Chloe (now in a 3-way tie for team goals with 4) scored both goals unassisted, one on a direct kick perfectly placed out of the keeper's reach and the second from the 18 after picking off a pass from a Twp. defender.  Keeper Kaitlyn Antolic and
the Flashes defense once again clamped down on Washington Twp's offense resulting in the first shutout of the season.  The Flashes remain undefeated at 4-0-3 and travel to Lawrence next week to face a tough opponent.
May 18, 2003 Florence 4

Lawrence 2

The Flashes snapped Lawrence's win streak with a solid 4-2 victory today, remaining undefeated at 5-0-3.  April Hatcher had a big game with 2 goals while Sam Weer and Chloe Bercaw contributed a goal each.  Assists were recorded by Ashley Nyul and Chloe.  The Flashes head into the Burlington Twp. Memorial Day Weekend tournament in sole possession of first place in the conference and look to close out the season next week on the road vs. Moorestown.  The conference is still up for grabs as Rancocas Valley remains only 2 points behind the Flashes with a game in hand.  The girls need your support...let the coaches know if you would like directions or need a ride to next week's game!

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TOURNAMENT

FLASHES TAKES SECOND PLACE IN U-16 GIRLS SILVER DIVISION

BURLINGTON TWP. MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND TOURNAMENT

The Flashes played through damp and dreary weather this weekend as they participated in neighboring Burlington Township's Memorial Day weekend tournament.  Florence posted a 2-1 record in the Silver Division of the U-16 Girls bracket and finished second behind Rancocas Valley (RVSC).  The Flashes and their opponents played up an age group as U-16.

Ironically, the SJGSL U-15 American Conference title will come down to either Florence or RVSC as the winner.  The Flashes go for an undefeated
season (currently at 5-0-3) as they play their final game of the Spring season vs. Moorestown on Sunday, June 1, 2003.

Whatever happens this weekend, it has been a great season all around.
Coaches Roseanne, Wayne, and Debbie are already looking forward to the Fall season as the Flashes expect to contend in the U-16 age group of the SJGSL.
May 24-25, 2003 Florence 3

Cherry Hill 1

Sam Weer contributed 2 goals, with Ashley Nyul netting 1 goal.
RVSC 2

Florence 0

the Flashes tough defense couldn't stop RVSC as they scored twice, while keeping Florence out of the net.  The Flashes had many opportunities throughout the game but just couldn't find the back of the net.  It was a great game between the two SJGSL U-15 American Conference contenders.
Florence 1

Ewing 0

the Flashes rebounded with a shutout win over Ewing. Ashley Nyul got the second-half winner with Kaitlyn Antolic picking-up the shutout in goal.
